Wow we have not been able to post for some time now
We’re spending so much time in the studio that our asses may be forming molecular bonds with the couch in here. But because you’re all probably wondering what the hell it is we’re doing, we thought we’d give you a brief overview of the recording process.
- Pre-Production. This is when we have a practice and our producer/engineer named Erik Ron comes in and makes fun of us. Sometimes he throws things at us, screaming “NO! NO! You’ve got it all wrong!” and we’ll be quite surprised because we haven’t even turned our amps on yet. Just kidding. Erik is actually a really cool guy and is a sound nerd so he can get our guitars to sound sweeter than cheesecake covered in maple syrup. Mmmm. Erik insists we do preproduction without any pants. We don’t understand this aspect of the process but he swears that it is vital and we don’t wanna bethat band so we oblige.
- Drums and Scratch Tracks. Most of the first day is spent lazily on a couch that Slash and other rock legends once sat in. We watched a movie and listened to music and acoustically jammed a couple of new songs (an acoustic song called “20 Years” and a new funk-rock jam we’re calling “She Devil”). We sat on the patio and smoked a couple cigars and spent hours looking through all the professional equipment at Woodland Ranch Recording Studios. Pretty easy and lazy first day. Except for Dan who had to play drums like a mad man for 7 hours straight but for the rest of us, pretty lazy first day.
- Bass guitar. Steve will do his thing. Again, Erik insists he records without pants on, something about it loosening his spirit to let out the inner beast. Listen to “She Devil” on the album and tell us whether or not you think the beast came out.
- Guitars. Joseph and Shivan will bust out their rockin melodies and lead riffs. Not much is known about recording guitar tracks, though it is rumored to include several liters of Red Bull and gnashing of teeth.
- Vocals. Ben will sing his brains out into a fancy microphone and Erik will tell him jokes in his in-ear feedback line (IFB) to try to get his voice to crack. It wont happen though because Bensadoun is a legend. Steve will then go and do backups vocals and try his best to not sing “do do do” in place of lyrics he can’t remember.
- Mixing. This is where Erik takes everything we played and throws it in the garbage and replaces all of our work with tracks he rips off of the Spice Girls album.
- Mastering. We have a deal with Marcussen Mastering. They’ve done hundreds of albums you probably already own and we’re really really impressed with their work. This is where they take the noise we made and make it noisier. They turn us up to eleven, if you will.
